Senior Business Intelligence Developer (12 Month FTC)

Job description

Role Purpose: 

The Senior BI Developer is primarily responsible for building, analysing, enhancing, and supporting best in class, business focused reporting and analytics.  

They must have the ability to lead on the translation of business needs, into technical specifications, that enable the design, build and deployment of BI solutions. They, together with their fellow BI colleagues, are jointly responsible for developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions, crafting and executing queries upon requests for data, and presenting the business with information through reports and visualisation. 

They will have the ability to undertake both technical, and engineering work on the platforms we operate (Azure Synapse, ADL) and also be able to lead project work and requests from various colleagues within the business for reporting, BI and custom reports. 

The Senior BI Developer will stay up to date on the latest analytical, data management and business intelligence technologies, offering insight and assistance in their future adoption and alignment within the business.

Key interfaces:  

The Senior BI Developer will interact with multiple parties across the company - including Fortnum’s Management Group, and other business leaders. In addition to supplying administrative report the role holder will liaise regularly with the central functions and businesses, such as Commercial Finance, Marketing, Hospitality and Retail and our leadership team in Asia Pacific. They will also liaise with our relevant partners and suppliers where needed.  

 

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Translate business needs to technical specifications 

  • Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools) 

  • Maintain and support data analytics platforms (e.g. ADL, Synapse) 

  • Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting 

  • Evaluate and improve existing BI systems 

  • Collaborate with teams to integrate systems where required 

  • Create visualizations and reports for requested projects 

  • Design and implement scalable and efficient data models in Azure  

  • Develop and maintain pipelines for ingesting, transforming, cleansing and loading data from internal and external sources into the ADL 

  • Develop and update technical documentation 

  • Ability to build and optimise data workflows using Azure data services 

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and requests 

  • Implement data quality checks and ensure adherence to data governance policies 

  • Monitor and optimise data processing performance in Azure environments 

  • Creation and maintenance of relevant documentation for pipelines and data models 

Role Specific Criteria (Experience/Behaviours/Technical Ability) 

We expect the successful candidate to have the following skills and experience: 

  • A minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist 

  • Demonstrable ability of building ETL Pipelines and managing the full data lifecycle 

  • Strong Python coding experience 

  • Good experience of Azure cloud principles 

  • Proven experience in Data Visualisation (Power BI) 

  • Proven experience developing BI, Data Warehousing and Azure data analytics solutions 

  • Commercial experience working with Azure Data Services; ideally Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL DB, Azure Synapse, Databricks 

  • Proven ability of working with a diverse group of stakeholders across many business disciplines 

  • Ability to independently manage an end to end project or solution 

  • Must have proven experience in PL/SQL  

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field 

  • Retail industry experience is preferred but not mandatory
