Digital Transformation Manager - Operations
Job description
Role Purpose
In recent years, Fortnum & Mason has made substantial strides in its digital capabilities.
This role is critical in defining and leading the delivery of the next stage at Fortnum's Digital Transformation Strategy and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives across our operations stream.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage strong, transparent partnerships with internal stakeholders
- Define and implement the Digital Transformation roadmap for Operations/ Supply Chain in partnership with key business leads, ensuring alignment to business needs and objectives
- Oversee the Continuous Improvement (CI) budget for Operations ensuring cost-effective and strategic investment in technology/solutions as required
- Budget management of relevant strategic portfolio initiatives
- Oversee business systems and business teams in delivering change aligned to business goals
- Encourage collaboration across departments to identify and address business needs while leveraging technology for business growth
- Ensure that Project Delivery, and Continual Improvement is aligned to prioritised supply chain requirements and managed end-to-end
- On-going solution management to ensure platform/product functionality continues to align with business processes and objectives
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with key Technology partners and service providers within Operations e.g our third party logistics and last mile providers
- Work with procurement and the relevant business owner to negotiate contracts and ensure Project Delivery commitments are met
- Identify industry trends and leverage them to unlock new opportunities at Fortnum & Mason
- Manage conflicts and interdependencies across other Digital Transformation streams to prioritise workload effectively, escalating to the Head of Digital Transformation for resolution if needed
- Collaborate with other Digital Transformation streams to ensure an aligned and united front on ways of working and understanding each roadmap
- Ensure clear and regular communication to key stakeholders and the wider business teams on roadmap progress and project status
- Lead, mentor and develop Digital Transformation Managers to foster culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Manage team performance and development through regular review and feedback
- Manage contingent project staff supporting delivery within the Operations roadmap
Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
- Experience within Retail, or Hospitality Industry, preferably within Transformation, Technology or Supply Chain
- Management of, and evidenced partnership with 3rd party logistic platforms
- Delivery of technology transformation within a business
- Proven track record of successful delivery of projects/programmes (planning, scope management, budget, RAID log, testing etc.) Experience with implementation programmes in digital systems would be an asset
- Working with ambiguity and sourcing innovative and creative solutions, with limited resource and budget
- Experience in managing delivery of multiple large and small concurrent projects and conflicting priorities (personally or through a team)
- Team leadership
- Experience with implementation programmes in digital systems would be an asset
Desirable:
- Understanding of technology landscape within a retail environment
- Solid understanding of supply chain and logistics
- Certifications from key methodologies e.g. Agile and PRINCE

- Ability to assess technical and business change requirements at a high level during the initial idea inception – enabling informed discussions with technology leads to recommend a technical solution/platform, refine estimates and understand true effort based on requirements
- Capable of prioritising competing demands, scoping large pieces of work and negotiating timelines
- Outstanding people manager with an engaging and open management style, who can train and motivate a team, manage performance and drive productivity with the ability to influence and inspire across the organisation
- A passion for what they do: convincing, a highly engaging technology and change professional, who is motivated by a desire to deliver outstanding and sustainable results for a business – and in the right way
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to create compelling presentations
Desirable:
- Comfortable and confident in presenting insights, strategies, project updates and recommendations to C-suite executives, effectively influencing decision-making at the highest level
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to support business decisions
- Demonstrates a genuine passion for food, with a strong interest in trends, quality, and innovation within the industry
- Experience using project management and portfolio management tools
