Testing and Release Manager

Job description

Role Purpose: 

An exciting role to build the test strategy and approach for our change roadmap. Driving an automation-first approach to both functional and non-functional testing.  The candidate will proactively improve the test capability, create test governance and develop full lifecycle testing for internally and partner developed solutions. Having strong knowledge of testing methodologies the candidate will be responsible for regression testing, feedback to the business, release notes and any subsequent testing. Working with the business they will generate test cases, defining test plans and outcomes.

Senior Core Systems and BI Manager

Location:  

Piccadilly though travel to all sites required on occasion  

      

Responsibilities:

Operational  

  • Ensure testing is completed in a timely and accurate manner for different applications before an expected release 

  • Create and review and optimizing testing processes, employing automation where possible  

  • Document test results including evidence of any testing defects  

  • Ensure testing plans are updated as new functionality is released into the environments and applications 

  • Report on progress, including risks & issues 

  • Investigating issues and working with the team to identify root cause and resolution  

  • Responsible for all environments, ensuring they are up to date in terms of platform and release requirements 

  • Ensure that production routes to live are always available 

  • Become the SME for releases, updates, environments and applicable testing 

  • Apply proper release management principles and processes ensuring smooth deployment 

  • Initiate and implement a Change Control process specifically for the management of environments, which encompasses correct processes, procedures and safeguards to ensure business continuity and to maintain a comprehensive control on the release and update process 

  • Ability to focus on procedure and processes as the priority 

  • Maintain relationships with external suppliers, especially those who provide third party systems to ensure that any future movement in these systems does not effect our core business systems 

  • To plan and organise emergency releases as and when required 

  • To ensure that either a roll back option is maintained if applicable, or if not to ensure that methods to fix-forward are known and plans of actions devised and implemented in such situation. 

People & Collaboration  

  • Ability to work with BA's, BSA's, Delivery Leads to proactively plan and manage releases, testing and environment changes and updates 

  • Ability to influence at all levels and to ensure that stability of operations and processes and procedures are followed 

  • Organise and chair go/no-go meetings to ensure discipline and rigour in the sign off of updates and releases and that production environments remain stable 

  • Communication of releases, updates and relevant new code and functionality as and when required to the business 

  • Communication of outcomes of testing, releases and environment stability 

  • Co-ordinate with stakeholders on testing requirements on a set cadence. 

 

 Previous Experience (including qualifications where relevant) 

     

  • Experienced test manager 

  • Functional and non functional test management and testing experience 

  • Experience of leading test automation initiatives (from a manager/ strategic perspective)
