Health & Safety Manager

Job description

Role Purpose:

To be responsible for developing and promoting Fortnum’s position on a wide range of health and safety (H&S) issues and delivering projects aimed at improving H&S practices within Fortnum and Masons. In addition to BAU of reducing any risks of dangers in the workplace and to create a safe and secure workplace environment for all retail employees. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

*       Developing, delivering and supporting the H&S strategies to Fortnum and Mason.

*       Monitoring legislative and policy changes and their impact on current practices, to ensure these are up to date and current.

*       Presenting guidance, drafting communication to provide advice and assistance on H&S issues. Representing the organisations at external meetings and events.

*       Managing the Company Health and Safety committee and specific task related group/s.

*       Responsibility for sustaining our appropriate certification in relation to our Company risk management strategy, including risk assessments and safe working procedures.

*       Coordinating all aspects of H&S training, site H&S inspections, safety audits, and incident investigations.

*       Is the key contact responsible for leading and delivering all related H&S projects.

*       Proactively manage the building and equipment H&S maintenance activities.

*       Ensure facilities meet statutory, environmental, H&S and security levels.

*       Act as the first point of contact for H&S matters and ensure awareness of such matters is maintained throughout the building.

*       Liaise with members of the Exec, Management Group and other managers to ensure that all H&S issues raised are addressed.

*       Identify opportunities for improvement in H&S practices and procedures.

*       Manage Third Party Contractors relating to H&S to ensure high standards and that any contracts are cost effective with performance standards.

*       Engage with the key stakeholders in our organisations to create a positive H&S culture at all levels within our Company.

Role Specific Competencies:

 

Technical

  • Relevant health and safety qualifications, including Fire Warden and First Aid Training.
  • Experience and ability to understand and analyse complex H&S situations, in order to provide timely solutions, to the business, by translating these requirements to functional specifications, that are in simpler language that all stakeholders understand. 
  • Maintains a proactive approach to staying updated with H&S changes and a strong desire to continuously learn and adapt to new approaches and requirements.
  • The capability to collaborate efficiently with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into effective H&S solutions.
  • Have deep knowledge on providing technical governance on H&S legislation and requirements to enhance ways of working and improve process and compliance. To ensure risks are highlighted in the appropriate challenges.
  • Understanding of Retail environment and requirements for changing needs of the business.

  • You are expected to have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience and ability to delivery key communication and structured updates on projects milestones in easily comprehensible way to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working in an agile and dynamic working environment.
  • Familiar with the urgency/importance matrix, and impact/effort matrix, and be able to plot projects on both to help justify prioritization. Flexibility around deployment.
